This is how we do

You know, if there's one thing that girls do best at, but guys suck at, it's definately got to be shopping. The almighty cult of an obsession with a core foundation mainly consisting of seasonly all year round displayed cardboards of multiple shapes, sizes and color imprinted with only the four devious letters many working people fear of : SALE.

Today I went on one of my most "impromptu-est" shopping sprees, peripherals for the dinosaur of a computer in the living room. It all began just yesterday when after catching up with Naqy, Teik and Fazrin that they showed me how impressive the driving simulator LFS (Live For Speed) has evolved. Instantly I was hooked to return to it's shores, but how? My P4 rig is still down, it's so damn heavy that I get de-motivated by simply trying to lift it into place, and the living room P4 is just fecked!

So after dinner I thought of a plan, what if I could replace the processor, motherboard and graphic card from the living room PC with something slightly upscaled, and use it for more than just living room internet surfing, if you get what I'm saying. I used to be a gamer mah, during secondary 3 and 4 also addicted to anything that runs on Steam, Battlefield and LFS as it's crack or something. Spoke to Khole on MSN for a moment, and I was sure I'm going to get this rig running.

2 hours, 11 price checks and 5 phone calls later, I had it in my hands. The list of peripherals to revive my long lost gaming enthusiasm. It all looked so simple, I was SURE it was incorrect, cause as per the calculation it's RM45 shy of the 1k mark. The specs were average, but surely could do what I wanted it to do well. P4 3.0, 1gig DDR (to be coupled with my current 2x512), x1950xt, 80gb, 945 motherboard, standard chassis with 450w PSU. The works la basically. All this for less than 1k, I bet you're getting doubtful as we speak. I don't blame you though, read on..

So Sunday arrived, I headed out to Lowyat after lunch to do more research, but as I was as tired as heck since I slept at 7 that morning waiting for *somebody* to reply my messages, I only had Czone, Cycom and All IT on my list. First stop was Atom however, only grabbed a price list, then Czone only price list and finally Cycom. Standing there in the heavy traffic of people seeking the ultimate computeing experience, I briefly ran through the lists looking for the items I wanted.

Czone was kicked out immediately, they discontinued the P4 to only push Core2Duos and Dual Cores. Atom had a good price on the processor but I figure I've always trusted Cycom and Czone only, so off to Cycom I went thinking I was only going for a price quote. Next thing you know, item by item the prices didn't seem to come out right, prices were identical but I found myself in a situation where I had to splurge extra on some items which replaced an obsolete one such as the casing and PSU.

Long story short, next thing you know I was infront of a whole new rig, with a whole new price tag and I was too tired to think about surveying anywhere else. As of now, I had a Core2Duo, P35 chipset motherboard and a 2600XT HD, a graphic card I've never even heard of before prior to the visit. Yet again, too tired to think about it, I told the guy to go for it.

Without even thinking about how much other shops would offer, I was about to splurge on something that is still fairly foreign to me, namely the 2600XT and Core2Duo. I guess this is the nature of how guys shop, 1 hour spending RM3000 instead of the ladies which spend 3 hours spending RM1000 :-/ So yeah, I got myself literally a new system now, yay! Salvaged only the chassis, optical drives and one of the hard drives. Couldn't salvage the ram as I opted to go for DDR2, double yay!

Triple boohoo for the wallet though as the total spendature broke the budget by a.. slightly milder than mild, RM820, sigh. I hope all this makes the experience worth it, cause if it's not, then I swear I'm going to stop gaming with my own PC for the rest of my non-working days. Take a dive into it's specs, I find it quite impressive but I'm pretty sure it's average compared to the nutcases out there who spend up to 10k on their PCs for god knows what reasons except for gaming.

Intel Core2Duo 4400 2.0GHZ 800FSB 2MB CPU
2GB DDR2 677MHz RAM
Sapphire HD 2600XT 256MB 128bit Graphic Card
Western Digital 800JG 80GB SATA HDD1
Western Digital 200GB PATA HDD2
Gigabyte iP35 chipset motherboard, up to 1066FSB

That's all the information that matters, proud to announce that it's 4.35AM now and the system is finally UP! now installing the drivers and soon followed by the games, it's gonna be a gaming day later today, whee! But the point that I'm trying to convey in this post after all is that, guys seriously can't shop like how girls can but hey, at least we're catching up on amount xP

Now, anyone got suggestions for names for this humble Iswara (I quote Seh Ming) of a PC?

P/S : Good luck for your driving test, Kheng! Don't grab the wrong stick now, hahah! I'll be rooting for you ;)

I'm sorry, Swazi-who?

We got the word, we heard the memo, we knew what we had to do but still up to the very day before his visit, we just didn't know who the hell from which country was visiting the campus! Only when we found out that it was the King of Swaziland, not Switzerland (I knew a Swiss would never come to a French institution) and that Swaziland is a pint country in Africa. Lorrr, we sighed.

So as per the memo and some blackmail and threats of a wedgie/nipple-squeeze (ouch..) from Rouq, I agreed to wear traditional clothes i.e my Baju Melayu from last year to campus on the day of his arrival. One day prior to that me and Kheng stopped by a local Jusco to get her a Baju Kurung since the only one she had was from prefect's duty in school (cheh, lan see!). Took me quite a while to convince her to splurge her money on it but voila! Next thing we knew she had a new outfit which she looks absolutely gorgeous in =)

So anyways, the next day I arrived about 10 minutes earlier to meet Rouq, Tommy, Elaine and Vincent in the lounge where I decided to read up on the King and ho ho ho, look at what daddy found! It's not infact the brightest news about a King but yeah, we dug out some dirt alright.

King Mswati III of Swaziland, the last absolute monarch in South Africa. He's one who knows how to enjoy life I tell you, he has so many wives, children and fiancees (up to 30 wives, 20 children I heard) but is still looking for the next one in the immediate near future! To actually know how many wives he has right now is a challenge, cause he probably changes them like how we change clothes. Exhibit A would be an article dated back to February 2005 saying he has 11 wives, followed by another in September saying he has 13!

On an average it's no surprise if he spends about 1/3 of his day running the country, 1/3 selecting new wives, and the remaining 1/3 "doing it" with his current wives! The now 40 year old is definately used to being associated with trouble. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out if a King can buy 10 BMWs for his wives while the country is living on massive debt and financial aid, no? I'm not trying to imply anything offensive here, but this is pretty much the truth that I'm typing plus/minus a couple of 'maybe's and 'i think's.

It's genetic though, and a mere pinch compared to his father, King Sobhuza II which had 70, yes your eyes are fully awake, 70 wives, 210 sons and over 1000 grandchildren! I don't need to be the one that tells you that that's a hell of a lot of grandchildren coming from one guy! Mswati was crowned the title at the age of 18, just when Sobhuza died of pneumonia.

Swaziland is actually a wealthy country in Africa, but compared to the world it is one of the poorest. It also has the highest HIV rate in the world with 38.8% of it's population of 1 million having the disease. The country itself suffers crisis of what your average run-of-the-mill African country in a storybook suffers from like poverty, floods, drought and soil depletion. I'm still wondering what happened to the Beemers though. Well that's not stopping the king anyway, it's a ritual to have up to 20,000 teenagers come to audition to be his next bride every year, doing erotic dances wearing very exposing clothing.

Most Swazis do farming, also another no-surprise fact coming from an African country, and 40% of the land is owned by foreigners. Considering how farming "really can" run a country, I'd say this 40% plays a big role in the Swazi economy. But not as big as sugar though since concentrated cane sugar is their biggest export earner and job creator. Imagine Swaziland as the lucky miniscule African country since it's higher ranked citizens live happy lives with their numerous wives and BMWs, yet the lower class people still can survive with African-uncommon industries such as tourism and mining.

All in all, it's pretty interesting to study about a country as strange as Swaziland, and King Mswati himself. It's sort of a contra which gets you going "What the hell?" and encourages you to find out as much as you can and here I am, I probably know Swaziland and it's king too much already now since I actually read so much about it. Aanyways, he came for a short while and left, I didn't even get to see him, maybe just a glimpse in the car when he left. However, wearing the Baju, sorta pestering her to get her Baju merely for this occasion and not even being able to see him concludes as a waste of money, so I'm sorry!

Ah well. That's about it for this guy, I'm tired and emo-ed now. I'm 18, single, not even king of half my room and I'm driving a junk. Fudge it!

                                                                 -Cyndi Lauper

Wah lau eh, I actually spent 30 minutes thinking how to start this blog and ended up quoting a line from a song, how.. idiotic. -______- I seem to have more trouble thinking about what to about than cutting three julienne carrots, and trust me, one carrot is hell enough for someone like me. French knife + 1/3 white portion of thumbnail = GONE! If it wasn't for the neatness, it would have looked like I picked up nail biting or something.

Ookay, where do I start. The past few days in college has been alright, another week of Term 2 has just ended. The usual twists and turns, sours and sweets. I'm always upset about something, even as small as not being able to tell a funny story about my dad burning my mum's precious carpet for the second time but hey, I think I'm getting used to the dose of emo everyone except for Min and Maynard seems to get weekly. I get my fair share of good times too, especially when I spend them with the people I love. I have great friends in college, and they're all I need to survive through a storm passing by Leisure Commerce Square!

Thanks to bartender duty, I didn't get to answer the question in an exam last Thursday. All because instead of serving and learning the proper technique to doing a Silver Service, I had to trap myself at the bar with Aaron to prepare Violet Dream (I know I know, enough with the jokes containing the words Violent and Wet already!) which was our mocktail. Sigh, I have a feeling I'm going to flunk that exam, but whatever! Wah talk about blogging like a bimbo, man. Ok fudge it.

If you're from my batch then you should already know, but my so called twin sister; Sherryna and Shane Tan got together about two weeks ago. I'm quite proud of her really! Because in Term 1 she confidently told me that there are no handsome guys in Taylor's College, except for Mr. Bertrand (oh spare me the drama, french-men-liking-people) and now voila! She's with a sepet xD Shane's one of my first friends here too, me and Jimmy met him, Aaron and Han during orientation week. I labelled him as guai lou (mat salleh/mad sailor/white people/ang moh) cause he always seems to look like one from far in his formal clothing carrying his notebookless notebook bag. Don't worry la, someday Sherryna will get you a notebook *pats back*.

Funny and evil how we tease them indeed, picking out a new name for him and all, haha! I'm pretty sure they'll live through the programme, good luck sis! This reminds me, what in god's name am I doing taking a whole damn diploma on cooking and an international certificate in pastry when I've NEVER actually tried cooking ANY of my learnings at home? Damn emo leh. No proper oven some more. Even had to bake that Mother's Day tart aux chocolat at Jimmy's cause my oven went into it's grave already. Darn the fact that I just realized this. No wonder Mum keeps on asking me if I'm sure or not cooking's for me!

Ok, now I know what to ask for my 29th birthday present next year, hahaha! No, I'm not 28 years old, that was just a joke =P Speaking of presents, I *sigh* sadly bought myself a new, old car for my 18th birthday. Some of you have met it already, Petunia. It's a male, a Toyota Corolla KE70 with a 4AGE from an AE86 fitted in, together with the dashboard even. I know what you're thinking, I told the parents that I bought this car cause the Gen2's fuel consumption is killing me, but to my luck as they're not that observant *points to the highly obvious and bright D1GP windscreen sticker* to the things I do to kill time, I bought this car to drift. You most probably won't see it during the daytime, unless it rained 45 minutes ago. Heheh, doing something autonomous feels good, it's not something as major as moving out but at least you can feel good about something that you're doing for yourself, by yourself! Oh yea, I'm paying for Petunia myself, all 10 yards.

Not that I'm into the sport of dying faster, cause inevitably the KE70 is a Milo tin fitted with wheels, a bump into a Volvo is almost definetly going to shove the steering wheel into my rib cage but really, it's a high that only the most bored people pursue, and I figure I needed exercise to brush up on my bi/triceps which didn't involve dumbells or True Fitness. Hmm.

Right, speaking of great friends. The first thing you've got to know about college life is everyone's extra fun. Everyone is funny, or tries to be funny. Remember the class clown? It's like the one class clown from every class goes to college to meet other class clowns and the rest of the people go to.. Matriculation or something, you know? This is good I presume, but it's so much more better when they're funny AND caring. No question about it most of these people are of the female gender lor, but guys also got wan larr. Farouq and Calvin, eventhough it doesn't seem that way are one of my closest friends since I seek their advice for various things. But that's only because Farouq has a "vast" experience with love and Calvin sounds like Matthew Perry. Haha! No lah guys, just kidding, you know I appreciate your help always ;-)

I wrote something on some other people I appreciate, but I figure I had better not publish it since it would be racist (haha) to only mention a few names cause seriously, there's too many great people around me in college. Thanks guys!

So this was my update, as of now the information in this post may be incorrect and is outdated. Hahaha, just kidding! Thanks for stopping by though, now shoo!
